Den-Hertog, and "Chess Lessons". The first work is designed for beginners, the second for more experienced chess players. The book is a real chess tutorial in the true sense of the word. This is expressed not only in the appropriate distribution of the material and the method of presentation, designed to awaken the initiative of the student, but also in numerous practical exercises offered to the reader after explaining each new concept or technique. The textbook primarily attracts the methodology of presentation of the material, the principles of which will be useful for coaches and teachers of chess sections and circles. The youngest first–grader in the USSR, the world champion among young men, a participant in the candidates tournament at the age of 19 - Boris Spassky's rise was rapid. And then fate gave the brilliant chess player a test of strength: he stumbled twice at the decisive moment and remained beyond the threshold of interzonal tournaments ... Only ten years after his first great success, Spassky managed to pass all the qualifying tests and earn the right to a match for the crown, but he failed to defeat the Iron Tigran Petrosian the first time. It took three more years of super–efforts: by Sisyphus he rose again to the foot of Olympus and did not miss a second chance - in 1969 he became the Tenth king of chess! An essay about the life of Boris Vasilyevich and his sporting path full of ups and downs was written by Dmitry Oleynikov, Candidate of Historical Sciences, curator of the Chess Museum of the Chess Federation of Russia. 70 beautiful and instructive games of Spassky were commented on by the champion of Russia in 1993, the famous author and theorist grandmaster Alexey Bezgodov, as well as grandmaster Dmitry Kryakvin and FIDE master Steve Giddins. The preface was written by the 14th world champion Vladimir Kramnik. For a wide range of chess fans.

An outstanding theorist and successful coach shares his memories of communication and cooperation with Mikhail Tal, Anatoly Karpov, Isaac Boleslavsky, Elena Akhmylovskaya and other outstanding chess players. Separate large chapter – a story about many years of work with Boris Gelfand: over these years (1980-1993) the student went from a 12-year-old candidate for master to the holder of the 3rd rating in the world. Albert Kapengut – winner of 6 gold medals at the World Student Olympics, seven-time champion of Belarus, participant in the individual and team championships of the USSR among men, champion of the USSR as part of the Burevestnik team. The book includes 70 games commented in detail by the author, a careful study of which will help the reader not only better understand popular opening schemes, but also get a taste for serious analytical work. “My story is not so much about a career, although “you can’t erase words from a song,” but about memorable situations, often funny, sometimes absurd, and dotted about people I met along the way, sometimes with touches of biography, prompting readers to become interested in more complete information.” ;" (A. Kapengut). For a wide range of chess lovers.

The 2012 World Vice-Champion continues his story, begun in the best-selling books Positional Decision Making in Chess. ("Book of the Year" according to the English Chess Federation), "Dynamic Decision Making in Chess" and "Technical Decision Making in Chess." The new book discusses ways to make decisions in positions without minor pieces. The reader will get acquainted with rook and queen endings, as well as with what Romanovsky called the "fourth stage", that is, the late middlegame / early endgame, where only heavy pieces remain on the board. «Gelfand is very good– and very honest – explains what decisions he was able to calculate and what he had to make on the basis of general reasoning, and how he did it. This resulted in a book of the type that I love. A chess player of any strength can find a lot of useful things here. (Grandmaster Matthew Sadler, reviewer of novelties in chess literature in the magazine "New in Chess"). For a wide range of chess lovers.

In the vast ocean of chess literature there are relatively few books about the endgame, and only a few of them can be considered true chess classics. And the most outstanding among the classics — Reuben Fine's book "Basic Chess Endings". Reuben Fine (1914−1993) was for a long time one of the best chess players in the world. As an author, Fine showed himself to be an excellent analyst who understood the full depth and peculiarities of the endgame. Having studied various types of standard positions, Fine established useful rules for practical play and proved himself to be an experienced teacher who, using skillfully chosen examples, was able to teach the reader all the necessary lessons and introduce him to the basic ideas of the endgame. Many generations of chess players in different countries of the world keep copies of “Basic Chess Endings”. For example, Mikhail Botvinnik considered Fine's work the most worthy of all that had ever been written on endgame theory.

Sosonko & Corner Editor Genna Sosonko was leafing through his old notebooks when he came across a venomous novelty he had used in a blitz game against John van der Wiel back in 1987. This provided enough ammunition for an article on the piece sacrifice Nc3-d5 often seen in the English Opening and of course the Sicilian. The final example is by Donner, who once more had his facts wrong. Sosonko & Corner YB / 75: In this extended column, Genna Sosonko provides us with a bird's eye view of the enormous impact that Garry Kasparov has had on opening theory. From his younger years, through his famous World Championship matches with Karpov, right to his last novelties in Linares 2005. Kasparov's ringtone theory was revolutionary. He used his computer skills. The man from Baku could beat all his rivals with his home preparation, which was an extraordinary broad mixture of modern, ancient and half-forgotten opening lines. Kasparov has stopped playing chess, but his work was able to keep top grandmasters, who can not sit still for one week as it is, busy for years. And like many of his colleagues, Sosonko does not rule out a comeback ... Book Review YB / 75: Supply and demand has motivated a proficient writer Stefan Kindermann to write his 'The Spanish Exchange Variation' in English instead of his mother tongue, as Glenn Flear explains. Admiring its clarity, Flesh regrets that this book is too thin! In Konstantin Sakaev and Semko Semkov's profound ', in the Semi-Slav: ANTI-MERAN, Flear has spotted some amazing insights. And he finds Gary Lane's 'Ideas Behind Modern Chess Openings: Black' more relevant than Lane's version for White. Who could better review 'Play the Sicilian Dragon' by Edward Dear Sergey Tiviakov? With contributions by Ian Rogers, Dorian Rogozenko, Tibor Karolyi, Geert van der Stricht and many others. Sosonko's Corner In this column, Genna Sosonko takes a look at yet another provocative theme in the opening: the 'delayed' advance of a pawn. In more lines than you would expect, this loss of a tempo that we could call the 'Arabic' method can be surprisingly effective, although the author admits that it would have left the Stars of the Past utterly amazed! '. Except Philidor, of course, who is already taught that 'excellent pawn play is a key characteristic of true craftsmanship'. However it may be, he who uses the "step by step" method. Book Review Non-theory openings are rapidly becoming theory. Glenn Flear investigates James Plaskett's The Queen's Bishop Attack Revealed and Richard Palliser's Tango !. He read the QBA, despite some deficiencies, with a smile on his face and found Tango! to be "fairly objectively analysed" and so these books may serve to popularize these still relatively unknown openings. Next, Flear compares Palliser's The Modern Benoni with Endre Vegh's Starting Out: Modern Benoni. He found quite a few differences. They are contrasted with the mainstream 1.e4 e5 openings and the King's Indian. Being an avid Ruy Lopez player himself, Flear eagerly read Nigel Davies's 'Play 1.e4 e5!' Flear was also taken by Mikhail Golubev's personal view on the King's in his new book, analysing 56 of his own games. An entertaining, high-quality and original work, writes Flear. 'Rebellious material' and 'weird stuff' we find in Andrew Martin's 'The Hippopotamus Rises'. Our reviewer finds it original, but a little skimpy.
